What Judges look for - Research Categories

All research categories

This category evaluates a student's ability to integrate scientific research and communicate  it effectively through one of various presentation methods. Students are assessed on their scientific understanding, accuracy, and the originality of their approach. Whether choosing an oral, artistic, or board-based medium, the focus remains on the student's capacity to engage an audience while demonstrating a thorough inquiry process documented in their project log. Most importatly they need to explain the science behind their project topic. The Why and how.
They should â€‹use a variety of sources to an appropriate depth.
                      explain the reasons for their choice and show passion for the topic

Oral Presentations

  • do not need an exhibit board but we recommend having some presentation like a slideshow to illustrate what they are talking about
  • should have an interesting beginning, logical sequence, and strong conclusion
  • delivery sould be clearly spoken using own words and technical vocabulary
  • engaging audience through tone, volume, eye contact, posture, and gestures
  • answer post-speech questions effectively.

  • Visual Art Presentations
  • Artistic Skill: Executed with technical control and can explain their usage of imagery & media
  • Visual Communication: Strong visual impact and effective exhibit design.
  • Concept Integration: The artwork is clearly linked to the scientific topic.
  • Design Reflection: Can explain the development of ideas and choice of materials.

Board Presentation

  • ability to explain the scientific concept clearly as an effective communicator
  • the exhibit is well-laid out, attractive and board links to and complements topic
