Ew Pooh Smelly Shoes Not

By Tullia Connor

Ew Pooh Smelly Shoes Not earned Tullia Connor a Highly Commended Award in the Technology section (yr 7 - 8).

Tullia is a 12 year old from St Mary's' School, thought her feet were rather odoriferous and decided to do something about it.  Her aim was to produce a shoe insert that would stop people's feet from being so unpleasant.

Tullia tested a wide variety of materials to see how well foot odour powder puffed up through the material.  She then sewed materials together to make the inner soles for her shoes.

She then tested the inserts by going for a hot and sticky 2.5 km run and used the aromatic nose test to determine the effectiveness of the inserts.

Tullia produced a successful odour eating insole and know can politely recommend them to her friends.  Tullias' mum gave her help with the sewing machine but she did everything else herself.

Some helpful advice offered by Tullia is "Choose a problem that effects you and don't give up until you solve it".
